A Vila da Penha is a charming residential neighborhood located in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro, between Irajá, Vila Kosmos, Penha Circular, Brás de Pina, and Vicente de Carvalho. With a population of 25,465 inhabitants and an average income of R$ 2,145, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the neighborhood is predominantly residential and has many houses. The busiest streets are Vicente de Carvalho, Meriti, and Oliveira Belo. BRTs (Rapid Bus Transport) and regular buses to the central, northern, and western zones pass through the first one.

The street commerce is limited to small service shops, bakeries, banks, pharmacies, and clothing stores. The Carioca Shopping, inaugurated in 2001, is another shopping center that has valued the region and is sought after by visitors from neighboring neighborhoods. The place has a food court and cinema halls. Vila da Penha still has a library, called Biblioteca Comunitária Tobias Barreto de Meneses, and several clubs with swimming pools for members and visitors, such as Mello Tênis Clube, Casa de Viseu, and Clube Beneficente dos Sargentos da Marinha. The most important show and event venue is Olimpo.
