History
The origin of the Cachambi neighborhood dates back to the Arraial do Cachambi, which was explored for twenty years by Lucídio José Cândido Pereira do Lago, who gives his name to a street in Méier and a tram line. After the creation of the auxiliary railway, the Rio D'Ouro Railway, occupation expanded in another direction and in a more regular manner, giving rise to the current neighborhoods of Cachambi, Maria da Graça, and Del Castilho.

Infrastructure
Despite being close to the Belford Roxo Railway Line, there are no train stations in the neighborhood, with the closest ones being Méier and Del Castilho. There used to be a station, Monhangaba, in the vicinity of Gandavo Street in Engenho de Dentro, but it is now deactivated.

The neighborhood has several bus lines that pass along Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara, but public transportation within the neighborhood is scarce. The nearest metro station is Maria da Graça.

Norte Shopping is located in Cachambi on Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara, where you can find Carrefour supermarket. The neighborhood also has Big, Sam's Club, and Leroy Merlin hypermarkets.

In addition to Norte Shopping, the neighborhood has a variety of commerce, especially on Rua Cachambi. Other notable streets include Vasco da Gama, Cirne Maia, Miguel Cervantes, Capitão Jesus, Garcia Redondo, Ferreira de Andrade, Getúlio, Honório, Capitão Rezende, and Coração de Maria.

A portion of Honório Street is known for its abundance of furniture stores and is referred to as "the furniture street."

The neighborhood is also home to five large residential complexes: Norte Village, Norte Privilege, Nobre Norte Clube Residencial, Dom Condominium Club, and Refinatto Condomínio Club.

It is close to Nilton Santos Stadium, located in the neighboring Engenho de Dentro.

Cachambi is one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, with a predominantly middle-class population but with some social diversity. In the central streets of the neighborhood, closer to Méier and Todos os Santos, there is a slightly higher income population, while in the vicinity of Jacaré, Del Castilho, and Engenho de Dentro, there are residents with slightly lower purchasing power. However, even in these areas, new real estate developments are being built, such as those near Del Castilho, including higher-end projects like Refinatto and Maggiore.

Education
Currently, Cachambi is considered one of the neighborhoods with a large number of nurseries, schools, and educational institutions. On Ferreira de Andrade Street, you can find the Santa Mônica School, which is the largest educational center in the neighborhood. There are also schools like Celio Rodrigues on Ferreira de Andrade Street, Elite, and CEL in Norte Shopping. Public schools include Professor Visitação and Jean Mermoz.

Leisure
Leisure options in Cachambi are primarily concentrated at Norte Shopping. However, the neighborhood also offers many restaurants, steakhouses, pizzerias, bars, and other options, some with live music. Notable establishments include Cachambeer, known for its long lines for its traditional "costela no bafo" (Brazilian barbecue), Toque China, China in Box, Evandro's (seafood restaurant), Del Forno pizzeria, Referee's Burguer (hamburger joint), Bar do França, and the recently opened Outbeco Lounge Cachambi, located in Praça Avaí, which is the only franchise location with a lounge for birthdays and events.

The neighborhood is also home to the G.R.E.S UNIDOS DO CABRAL samba school, named after the Alvares Cabral Street in the neighborhood. Founded in 1961 as a football group, it later became a "bloco de sujos" (a type of carnival group) and eventually transformed into a samba school, parading as such the following year. Its headquarters is located at number 140.

Cachambi once housed the Cine Cachambi cinema. Today, it is a grocery store, but there is a project in progress to revitalize it, preserve it, and designate it as a cultural center.

Aside from a few restaurants, leisure activities are mainly centered around Norte Shopping. The complex includes UCI Kinoplex cinemas, Teatro Miguel Falabella, Top Kart Indoor, and Magic Games. As for restaurants and bars, the shopping mall has Outback, Na Pressão, Parmê, Bibi Sucos, Burger King, Cabana Burger, Galeria Gourmet, among others. There are also two squares and two soccer fields on Velinda Maurício da Fonseca Street. Praça Avaí, located between Capitão Jesus, Garcia Redondo, and Cirne Maia streets, has a multipurpose court and playgrounds for children.

Development
Cachambi has a high Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.900, ranking 28th in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. In terms of social development, it ranks 32nd with an index of 0.670.

The Méier-Todos os Santos-Cachambi axis has the fifth-lowest poverty rate in the state of Rio de Janeiro, trailing only behind the Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana-Leme, Humaitá-Laranjeiras, and Gávea-Jardim Botânico-Leblon-Ipanema axes.

Curiosities
In 1936, the arrest of Luís Carlos Prestes and Olga Benário took place. While the case was recorded at Rua Honório 279 in Cachambi, the location where Prestes and Olga hid, number 270 on the same street, is actually in the Todos os Santos neighborhood.

Because Cachambi is a well-known neighborhood, it often appears to shorten the geography of Todos os Santos. Despite being small, Todos os Santos has some streets that "bump into the limits" of Cachambi, such as Honório and Getúlio streets.

Former Army captain Luís Carlos Prestes and his wife, sought since November 1935 when the coup known as the Communist Uprising occurred, were arrested after a police operation.

Initially, there was doubt about whether Prestes was in Brazil until the arrests of Comintern agent Harry Berger and Communist Party secretary Adalberto Fernandes.

Through documents and letters found in their possession, all doubts about Prestes' absence from Brazil were dispelled. However, his exact location remained unknown.

Shortly after, the police were informed that American agent Vitor Allan Baron had arrived in Brazil on a special mission from Comintern to negotiate with Prestes.

Police arrested him and took him to the Political and Social Order Police Department. In all interrogations, he refused to disclose Prestes' whereabouts. Captain Miranda skillfully interrogated him by taking him to dinner at a restaurant and managed to obtain the information he needed. Luís Carlos Prestes was living in hiding with his wife Olga Benário, a German national, at 270 Honório Street in the capital.
