The Riachuelo neighborhood is part of the Méier administrative region. The neighborhoods that make up this administrative region are: Abolição, Água Santa, Cachambi, Encantado, Engenho de Dentro, Engenho Novo, Méier, Piedade, Pilares, Riachuelo, Rocha, Sampaio, São Francisco Xavier and Todos os Santos.

The name, delimitation and coding of the neighborhood was established by Decree No. 3158, of July 23, 1981, with amendments to Decree No. 5280, of August 23, 1985.[4]

It is part of the so-called Grande Méier. Its main roads (Ruas Ana Néri, 24 de Maio and Avenida Marechal Rondon) form an important road link between the suburb and the City Center. Crossed by the Central do Brasil Railway, it borders the neighborhoods of Sampaio, Rocha, and Vila Isabel. It is separated from the latter by Serra do Engenho Novo, where Túnel Noel Rosa is located.

The neighborhood is home to the gigantic SENAI building, the largest professional training center in Latin America, offering several courses focused on the industry sector, as well as stores in different segments, but with great intensity in the automotive sector. A good example of these services is Total Force, which provides automotive mechanic services in the region.

It is also the headquarters of the CCAA Faculty, located next to the CCAA Group's graphics park, which today is trying to establish its place in the higher education scenario with degrees in Administration, Social Communication and Literature, as well as extension courses, aimed at improving qualifications. of students into the job market, through the dynamic development of new skills.

At the same address, where the CCAA Group operates, the Moreira School operated until 1970, which had a boarding and day school system. There was a large wooded area, where the mansion was located and next to the São Geraldo chapel.
